Dance Across the Country Tour

SO this isn't quite a review as it is a concert detailed by a friend since i had to miss it. Credit to Emily. After having issues with parking, we get in line at like 4:50 (doors opened at 7). The line wasn't too bad about medium length when we got there, but it eventually went around the corner. the will call line was pretty long too, i felt bad for them. so everyone's standing in line, and we can see the tour bus across the street and all of a sudden we see Bob walk across the street into the venue. a few minutes later Greta does the same, with who i now realize was their friend Mike who played with them on stage. no one really did anything because i think everyone was both in shock and afraid to lose their place in line haha.after a while of waiting in line, me and this girl i got a ride from decided to walk half heartedly along all the lines to see if anyone needed an extra ticket. no one did, but wasting that money is now worth it, partially because while we walking along the line, i realized the Cab's van was right in front of the venue door. Alex D was standing around talking to fans and taking pictures, so i got a picture with him. and then i saw Johnson was chilling in the van so i talked to him a little bit and got a picture. here's our conversation as best as i can remember:
me: i like your [SF] Giants hat him: thanks, i just got it last week, it's actually really cool *shows me how the logo on the hat is attached with velcro and you can take it off and replace it with the logo in a variety
of different colors*

me: whoa, that's really cool. you know, they actually won these past two games

him: really? cool, i dont really know much about baseball, i just like the giants logo (LOL)

me: well they're aren't any teams in Vegas, so that makes sense. as long as you don't like the Dodgers or anything

him: no, i hate the Dodgers, i usually root for the Giants, or sometimes the A's

me: i'll root for the A's if it's for american league, but A's fans tend to be more smug

him: really?

me: yeah, cuz the Giants kinda suck and then there was the whole Bonds thing, so they're all like *our* players don't take steroids (why am i still talking to him about baseball?)

him: i like the Blue Jays too (he didnt say this so abruptly but i cant remember where it fit in) i like Toronto, i like the city

me: well Canada's just awesome in general
and thats when i asked for a picture and then i went back to my spot in line...skipping...cuz im a dork
so we waited in line some more, got to eat some lemon cake that other people couldn't finish, and got stamped for being under 21. the doors finally opened and we went in. me and this one girl i was with went straight for the bathroom, then we met the two other girls we were with in front of the stage. we were respectably close, like 5 or 6 people in front of us. there was this screen thing in front of the stage, and they were playing good music

The Morning Light came on, they were good, b nothing special. except for their keyboardist/ sometimes singer. he is beautiful. t was funny seeing everyone's cameras in the air and 95% of the time they were focused on him. Oh and at one point Johnson was playing some extra drums on stage with them Steel Train took forever to set up, but really so did everyone else. there seemed to be a lot of technical issues, when the Cab was setting up there was a lot of loud sqeakingness. anyway, so Steel Train was also pretty good, but not much special. the people i was with also thought their keyboardist was hot, but i didnt see it myself. i was pleasantly surprised to recognize one of their songs, it was on this Drive-Thru records sample cd i have. highlights of their set: all the band gathered around the mic for one song and sang with the singer while he played guitar. it was cute. then they talked about how they like to see movies, and one of their favorites this summer was The Dark Knight. everyone screamed really loud and the singer joked, "their not even playing tonight! next up, The Dark Knight!" then he went on to say the worst movie they've seen so far was Mamma Mia (they're guys, its understandable) but then they started playing the music to Mamma Mia, and everyone sang it for a bit. they also had the singer from The Morning Light sing a song with him.The Cab finally came on after a long time setting up (like everyone else) but while we were waiting i heard these Cab teenies talking about how The Cab should be headlining and how The Hush Sound isn't even that good, and i was annoyed. cuz thats bull. anyways, while they were setting up, Alex D starting singing Bye Bye Bye from behind the screen. but he didnt even get to the chorus, which was kinda lame. When they finally started playing, it was really awesome, the crowd had so much energy, people were jumping around, but it never got too moshy (prolly cuz there's a big sign in the venue saying it's not allowed) Singer's dad came on when they sang That 70s song. The mentioned Rock Band Live tour. Marshall is pretty. He played guitar at one point. Cash and Ian took off their shirts, and at the end of he set Cash threw his shirt into the crowd, but towards the back. some people were shouting from an encore from the Cab, but they are an opening band after all, so obvs it didnt happen. After the Cab a few people left to go (i assume) towards the merch stands to try to meet them. I considered it, especially because there was always so much time in between sets, but with people leaving everyone got really squished up trying to get closer, but i actually ended up way closer, which was good because somehow throughout the show i had gotten pushed back and im not even sure how it happened. but i had started out centered, but ended up way on the right side, but with about 4 people in front of me. not long after The Cab left a group of people started singing We Intertwined, and everyone joined in, it was a really cool moment. at that point people were getting hot and thirsty so roadies starting throwing us water bottles. at first they only threw like 2 on our side, so everyone was sharing...and joking about how tomorrow we'll all wake up with herpes. after a while though they gave us a bunch more water bottles ad i ended up catching one, drank about 3/4 of it and gave the rest away. and i was actually quenched, not just teased, which was nice. one of the roadies looked really confused about how excited we were about the water. Greta came on by herself first and played introduction, then everyone else came on and went into Love You Much Better. The set list is like what has been posted already, except they didn't play Break The Sky. some of my favorite moments were when Bob played Momentum acoustically, although later Chris came on wth this shaker thingy and did background vocals. but it was just this really chill ad intimate thing with the crowd singing quietly along. When they played The Artist Greta played guitar, which was cool, and she took over on drums when Darren sang You Really Got A Hold On Me. he is such a cutie, and he did a really good job. ian from The Cab came on to play during Wine Red. there were THS being tossed among the crowd and one ended up onstage and Bob bit it until it popped. a couple times he would lean over the crowd and people would tussle his hair. after the first time he was like "you guys messed up my hair...in a good way" Greta: "he likes it" oh, you'll see this from the pictures, but Bob and Chris have facial hair now. The came back onstage for the encore pretty quickly. Bob was like, we'll play one more song for you guys. or two, do you want two? so obviously everyone screamed and was holding two fingers in the air. and some people were holding up 10 fingers. then one girl was like "a million!" Bob: "a million?" ok, here's our million song outro" and they started playing Crawling Towards The Sun, and he was very smiley throughout. Actually, he was smiling like all through their set, it was cute.

After the show i went to The Hush Sounds merch section, and then i realized Darren was right next to it, so i got a picture and an autograph, said i liked his singing and that i was at the HCT on his birthday. then i got back in line and got a hoodie, t shirt, and poster. Then i went to the opening acts merch stand to get a Cab shirt, and right after i bought it, i turned around i saw Ian was right there, so i asked for a picture, my change still in hand. if you look past the crazy hair he's actually really cute.

Then I found Greta hanging by the stage so i went over there. this girl in front of me, im not sure how old she is, but pretty young, gave Greta this bunny doll thing she made, it was cute. then i got her to sign my ticket and i got a picture. she was really nice, actually, they all were. oh damnit! i just remembered i was gonna tell Greta i voted for her for sexiest vegetarian *sigh* oh well...

After Greta I found Chris in the middle and waited around to get him to sign my ticket and take a picture. i told him that THS was the first band i've seen twice and he was all "really?" and i was just like "yeah" *awkwardly poses for picture* then i told him i saw them at HCT and he was like "wicked". after looking around a bit i saw Bob at the back of the room. while i was waiting, he was signing this girls Beatles shirt, telling her it was an awesome shirt. she was like "well i put you guys and The Beatles in the same category of amazingness so..." and he's like "that's amazingly ludicrous" and everyone around giggled and i told him i really liked their cover. then i got him to wish Steph (Sweet Symphony) a happy 18th birthday because it was on the 3rd while i recorded it on my phone.
him: "Happy 18th birthday Bar Mitzvah"
me: "say who you are"
him: I'm...I'm Bob" -cue giggling from everyone around-

then i set of to find Marshall and Cash, since i got everyone else from The Cab. I didn't see them inside, so i stepped outside thinking they might be by their van, but it was just Alex D and Johnson again. i went to go inside again but the door guy wouldnt let me because im under 21. i had actually noticed that rule before, but i forgot. all the girls around were trying to find Marshall, but no one could. one girl, after talking with Johnson for a while, asked if he knew where Marshall was, but he didnt. i talked to him a bit again, but then girls wanted pictures, so of course i let them through since i already had a picture with him and stuff. then he closed the van doors (he had been in te van the whole time). when the people i was with came outside (since i couldnt go back inside to meet them, we left.

Interview: Mury

Note: This interview was done by the bestofdev she is having difficultys posting

Local shows lead to some great music.Mury has been one of the great bands that have passed trough where I live. They bring a bit of spunk to the dull music scene. From the second I heard these guys hit the stage I was rather impressed. Although they could be playing bigger better stages than the little ratty old stage that graces a building that is falling apart. It gives the few dedicated show goers in the area a bit of a reason to keep going.I feel rather lucky to say i saw them twice in a month. So to learn a little bit more about the band and the inspiration behind them I asked Jay to fill out a little survey! So here it is:

*Where are you guys from?
Salt Lake City, Utah. The 801 baby.

* How many band memebers and what are your names?
4 members who are actually in the band. but 5 members total who make it work.
Chris Alder - Vocals/guitar
Jay Glauser - Bass/vocals
Jonathan Olivares - Guitar/vocals
Burt Hoagland - Drums
Ryan Tomita - Tour manager and everything else.

*How long have you guys been a band?
The first day we ever played together as a band was March 13th 2007

*Does the bands name have a specific meaning to you guys?
Absolutely. It represents where we are from. A suburb of Salt Lake City but spelled differently to create something unique from something familiar.

*Whats the most memorable thing that has happened to you guys as a band?
A kid in Idaho got some Mury Lyrics tattooed on his arm. That's pretty intense.

*Do you like touring?
Thats the best part.

*Wheres your favorite place to say play?
Its hard to chose just one city. I love anywhere in the North West cause its so beautiful. Shows are always fun in idaho, Vegas, Wyoming, and of course Salt Lake City.

*What band(s) have been your favorite to tour with?
We became very close friends with Paper Mache from Spokane WA and Broke City from our home town.
*Was Tarot card prophecy the bands first Cd?
Yes. We recorded it after being a band for 5 weeks.
*Some more random facts about the Cd Tarot card prophecy.pleaase?
We all hate the picture behind the CD and when we get the second run pressed that will not be there.
*Where did some of the inspiration for Mury come from? (bands, people, life, etc...)
All of the above. We are all inspired from different areas of our lives. We all listen to different music, play different instruments, and interact with many different friends and family and we take inspiration from everyone we interact with.

*Is there any BIG PLANS ahead of you guys?
Tour Tour Tour

So my opinion is that everyone and their MOTHERS should check these guys out. http://www.myspace.com/murymusic

Stay towards the back at warped. The Hard core metal kids come in and well start their kinda moshing...Not like little moshing that most of us do...

EH well watch out...

Also for free skelanimal tattos stop by there booth. You also can get free issues of AP :]. Peta 2 was there and gave me some great info! The first aid tent has free water sooooo keep your bottles and don't waste your $3 when you could save that towards (pricyish) merch. Check out bands booths to see when there signing stuff. Almost every band did a signing.

Stay Safe!

Summer Concert Tips:

So summer means that its time for Warped Tour and some other festivals so that means that you need to be taking care of yourself! Warped will be out in the sun so bring basic all day in the sun beachy stuff, minus the towel and speedos. We've compiled a basic check list of what to have and not to have at concerts like Warped.

Bring:
Money; at concerts like Warped tour you can't bring in water, and it cost alot like $4 a bottle.
sunblock; the highest SPF you can find unless you enjoy looking like a lobster.
Comfy shoes; no flip flops unless you want to end up bare footed.
a small bag; put whatever you need in it, use a fanny pack if necessary even if it looks way dorky.
baby wipes; unless you know you enjoy being covered in other peoples sweat and alcoholic drinks.
shades; Maybe not completely needed while watching your favorite bands but while browsing tents or something. You don't want your pretty little eyes fried.
Granola bars or something like that; We're not completely sure if you can bring those in but you at least could attempt too. Passing out isn't fun.
And medical items you may need; That means inhalers. Hand one over to a friend to watch for you too in case you can't get to yours or your passed out.
Lip Balm; Chapped and sun burnt lips will hurt after awhile of singing.
Hair ties; if your a chick. Concerts cause even the girliest girls to sweat which means big hair if your like me. Throw it back and you'll for sure stay cooler.

Don't bring:
Anything Pricey; Don't bring anything you'll be upset if you lose. Bring your camera if you want though.
Energy drinks; they don't allow them in so bring them for the ride up and guzzle them down before you get through the gates.
a pessimistic attitude; No one will appreciate it. No one at all.

If you have anything to add let us know cause we probably forgot something.

Jori Schmalz Photography

Through the wonderful world of myspace I was glad to have recieved a friend request from Jori Schmalz. Who turned out to be a artist in disguise. Usualy when I get a friend request I push it to the side and forget to really check out the profile. There was just something different about this one. I can't say what. Maybe it was the message attached to the friends request. Who really knows. Jori Shmalz is a 21 year old Illinois reisdent. Who seems to be fascinated with the world of photography.

What are some of your inspirations as a photographer?
My inspiration actually comes from the movie Rent. One of the quotes the movie is known for is, "No day but today." I believe in living every day as your last, because you never know what might happen. By taking chances and risks, you create more opportunities for yourself.

When did you start taking photos?
I started when I was 17. I got my first digital camera on my 17th birthday, actually. It wasn't very expensive, but it was all I had to work with at the time. I mostly just took pictures of my cat, and the plants around my house though. I didn't start taking photography seriously until Christmas of '06 when I got my Rebel XTi.

Have you always wanted to be a photographer?
No, I haven't actually. When I was younger I wanted to be a broadway singer. I've been singing ever since I can remember, so it has always been big part of my life. Once I graduated high school, I started getting into photography, and decided singing, for me, was more of a hobby rather than a possible career.

What type of camera do you use?
I own a Digital EOS Canon Rebel XTi. I have other various lenses for it as well, such as zoom and macro lenses.

Do you see yourself becoming a well known photographer?
I do, because in my opinion, I have to. Anyone with a dream has to have the drive and motivation to not only become what they want, but be good at it as well. Sonny Moore, one of my heroes, once said, ""Once you look Madonna, Divinci, Vangoh, or whoever your hero may be, and say "I could never do that." that's when you've already lost. You are just as good as anyone else."" I have to believe in myself, because if I can't even do that, how can I expect other people to believe in me?

What has been your favorite band to photograph?
My favorite band to photograph is definitely A Kidnap In Color. I've seen them mulitple times, and each time they become more and more fun to not only watch, but to photograph as well. Every member is so passionate about what they do, that it shows when they perform. It's much more enjoyable for me, not only as a photographer, but as a fan, to photograph people who love what they do.

Tell us some random facts about yourself?
I have ten cats! My family has 5 indoor, and 5 outdoor cats. My mom is that person everyone always refers to as the crazy cat lady. She's insane sometimes, but it makes life all the more interesting. Let's see, I don't like peanut butter! I can't even stand the smell of peanut butter, actually.

What type of music are you most drawn too?
I mostly listen to music that is upbeat and cheery. I'll be driving, and I'll get so into the music that I'll turn the volume up and roll down my windows so everyone around me can enjoy it as well! Music like that always puts me in such a good mood, that I can't resist it.

What advice would you have for a person who dreams of being a photographer?
Practice makes perfect. Not to sound like the typical Mom, but it's definitely something to remember. No one is born with all the knowledge and experience to automatically be the best, not only at photography, but anything for that matter. Take pictures of anything and everything, because you learn something new with every picture you take. Even professional photographers don't know everything, but the more experience you have, the better.

Persoanlly what is your favorite photo you have taken?
I'd have to say it's a tie between this one of Jay from Just Surrender:http://a258. ac-images. myspacecdn. com/images01/36/l_bc83905c7529c1d0b0022fbf84326bc9. jpgor this one of Derek from Mayday Parade:http://a63. ac-images. myspacecdn. com/images01/96/l_41d2f6e96814c536773880614fc76246. jpg

Interview: Oh, Hush!

Oh, Hush! is a band that anyone on myspace should know. They keep there identities hidden but still have a hugeee fan base. Check them out at www.myspace.com/ohhushmusic

Q1:1. So, the !...was the idea to use different punctuation taken from panic at the disco or did you guys just want it?
A1:Haha. We've actually been accused of STEALING it from Panic! But I can honestly say there was no direct tie-in with Panic! on the "!" controversy. We just felt that using both a comma and exclamation point were most effective with our name!!

Q2:2.Speaking of panic at the disco and punctuation what do you think of the ! drop?
A2:I have no real opinion on it! (note: I'm going to use as many "!"s in this interview as I possibly can!!!??!!) I think what happened is they heard we had come out with the "!" and decided that the world wasn't big enough to have more than one band with a "!" in the name so they graciously gave us exclusive rights to the "!" so there wouldn't be any confusion. I'm pretty sure those guys will do just fine without the "!"

Q3: Do you think that peoples favorite colors reflect their personality and who they are?
A3:Interesting question. I think in some respects that's probably true. There's probably psychologists out there that study this stuff and there's probably a series of questions that you can ask people and figure out personality traits based on their answers to seeminly unrelated questions. I dunno how far I'd take this theory but just in general, I would think that someone who's fave color is black is probably more of a melancholy-type person and someone who's fave color is pink is probably more outgoing and maybe bubbly. But again, I'm sure there's a million exceptions to these ideas. So I guess to answer your question, I'd really like to do a few more years of research on this topic before giving an official answer. :-)

Q4:Do you have any influences music wise? Or not music wise?
A4:I think there's a great mixture of musical and NON-musical things that influence us. Certainly the bands in our top friends are big influences on what we do. Cobra Starship's first album was groundbreaking!! Butch Walker is the greatest singer/songwriter/performer/producer/superhero on the planet!! We go back to bands like The Beatles who were pretty much the only band to write 150 amazing songs!! We're also influenced by a lot of things. Pop culture is everywhere and it's really interesting and sometimes fun to poke fun at. I like to do lots of reading and certainly books influence what we write our songs about. Movies are also a great influence because movies usually happen the way we WANT things to happen (which reality often does NOT do). We're also heavily influenced by Charles Shaw!!

Q5:So when do you think you'll tell us who you all are?
A5:This answer would require us to have a plan. And from the very beginning, we've had pretty much no plan with this thing! We make it up as we go. So we're not gonna change that mindset anytime soon. All I can say is that at some point, when we know the time is right, we will tell ya who we are and it will be every bit the wait and anticipation!! (Unless of course we play the VMAs this year, in which case, you'll see us then!)

Q6:This may give us a hint to who you are but what kind of hair do you prefer on your head?
A6:Hahahahaaa Great question!! I prefer the soft, touchable kind of hair best!!

Q7:What do you think about disneyland/world?
A7:Greatest place on earth!! I actually haven't been to either in quite a few years but it's tough to beat Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and I'm sure there's some other Mountains there as well!! I remember thinking the Hall of Presidents was the stupidest "ride" as a little kid and then I went there a few years later and appreciated it a bit more!! Haunted Mansion rules!! Mr Toad's Wild Ride rules!! Epcot is pretty amazing as well!! Am I even talking about the right place here??? Man, I need a vacation!!!

Q8:What is your favorite fruit?
A8:A wise friend of mine once told me that the most underrated fruit was the pear. He felt it was every bit as tasty as the apple and easier to eat and cheaper to buy. But of course the apple is always seens as the "better" fruit. I've recently been a big fan of the cantalope. Very tasty and orange! Peaches are tasty and fuzzy!! Aren't tomatoes a fruit???

Q9:What is your favorite brand of guitar/drums/keyboard/bass/whatever you play?
Q9:I play a little of all of that depending upon the day. But I'd say my fave brand is definitely Fender. They've been really great over there and take care of our needs with guitars and basses whenever we need anything. They also own 100 different companies as well and get us gear whenever we need it. And it's always nice to plug those companies who endorse you in interviews! They like that :-)

Q10:Do you ever think that Oh, Hush! will release a cd?
A10:Absolutely! 2008 is the year! I promise!! We're finishing up a bunch of new songs right now and are trying to put together the songs for the CD in the next few months. We're gonna have a lot of surprises associated with the CD. New songs and new ways of delivering the music to y'all! We're also working on a number of ideas for additonal content that we will sell with the CD. It's gonna be very exciting and we'll have more details (and more songs!) available for ya real soon on our myspace page!!!

Us:Once again Thank you!
Oh,Hush!:THANK YOU!!!

Concert Review: Honda Civic Tour

I realize that HCT is almost over by now but I must say it was an AMAZING show. It was my first time seeing any of the bands there and they did not disappoint. I went to the opening day and the show was almost flawless. If your into that music its DEFINITELY a must go to gig.The environment was amazing, the bands were full of energy, and the crowd was ecstatically happy. The projector screen was a nice touch and the crowd really reacted to what people would text up there. Things like "scream if you love panic" would get loud yelps and woots. While things funny like "I'm tighter then and emo kids jeans" got laughs. This show most certainly pleased the younger teen crowd and adults alike. So kids bring your parents because they proboly will enjoy it and maybe buy you a shirt or something. Or bring them to show how much you love them.
